West Bund Art Center N Pavilion

The Yuz Museum is located in the ‘West Bund Cultural Corridor’, adjacent to Longteng Avenue along the riverfront to the east, and backed by Fenggu Road to the north. It was transformed from the former Longhua Airport’s large hangar. The main exhibition hall, which is over 3000 square meters and part of the total 9000 square meters of the building, is constructed from the old hangar. Its unique vast space and expressive structural design complement Mr.

Yu’s collection, which is primarily composed of installations. The fundamental design of the Yuz Museum aims to maintain the original style of the old hangar while utilizing the planning of lush trees and bright, open glass halls to redesign the architectural space to accommodate large-scale exhibitions. Respecting history, the old hangar, which has undergone changes, endows the museum with visual impact and a sense of historical vicissitudes.

Meanwhile, the newly constructed glass hall fully embodies a sense of approachability. The integration of these two elements makes it one of the representative works of the fusion of old and new in contemporary architectural history. Once the museum facilities are complete, a café, restaurant, shops, and special exhibition rooms will be presented in a three-dimensional system within the spacious glass hall.

Additionally, the multi-level structural layout within the glass hall will unfold in a staggered movement as visitors walk, which can be said to not only continue the urban landscape but also enhance the refined character of Shanghai as an international metropolis. ‘Myth’ is the central theme of the first part of this exhibition, including the front hall, main hall, exhibition halls 1-3, and outdoor spaces.

Here, we see various non-representational artistic expressions created by artists from different countries, ranging from minimalist conceptual art to visually striking installation works and interactive presentations. Subsequent exhibition halls 4-7 focus on ‘History’, showcasing the evolution of contemporary Chinese art from the 1980s to the present within a chronological framework. The overlay and interplay of these two aspects reveal the vast extension dimensions and rich imaginative space of contemporary art.

The museum is open all year round from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 17:00; it is closed all day on Mondays.
