Liu Xi River, located within Lin’an City, is affectionately known as the ‘Lady River’ due to its gentle scenery. Rafting is one of the most enticing activities along the Liu Xi River, where you can appreciate the clear and shallow streams characteristic of the Jiangnan region, as well as the green mountain gorges reminiscent of the Three Gorges.

The ancient villages, towns, and bridges nurtured by the ‘Lady River’ are also a highlight of Liu Xi River. The area is distributed along the main line of Liu Xi River, with rafting divided into two sections: Liu Xi River rafting and the Western Zhejiang Three Gorges, from top to bottom.

The Liu Xi River rafting section has very shallow waters, allowing for bamboo rafts and rubber boats, while the Western Zhejiang Three Gorges offers a landscape similar to the Lesser Three Gorges, accessible by speedboat. Rafting on bamboo rafts or rubber boats at Liu Xi River can accommodate about 5 people, and the overall rafting experience is quite smooth, with only occasional small rapids causing a slight splash.

During cool weather, you can leisurely enjoy the scenery while boating. In the summer, when the crowds are larger, you can engage in water fights with bamboo water guns, feeling the coolness of getting wet. The rafting终点 is near the ancient town of Heqiao, and it’s only a five to six-minute drive to the starting point of the Western Zhejiang Lesser Three Gorges rafting. You can take a shuttle bus from the scenic area or walk at a leisurely pace, with few people and vehicles along the way, and occasional farmlands on either side, offering a unique charm.

The latter half of the rafting on speedboats or tour boats is much quieter, with the boat traveling on clear waters, surrounded by continuous green mountains, truly giving the feeling of the Lesser Three Gorges. However, the speedboat itself is a significant noise source, possibly due to its high speed, and the one-way trip can be completed in about 15 minutes.

This part of the rafting will stop at Fairy Island, where visitors can disembark and explore. The island’s environment is quite pleasant, requiring a climb up a small hill, with a waterfall cascading down from the top and some relics of Su Dongpo. It takes about half an hour to tour the island before returning by speedboat.

On the way back from exploring the ancient town, if time permits, consider visiting Heqiao Ancient Town, which offers rural homestays for eating and lodging. The area has not been extensively developed for tourism, retaining old houses and a sense of life, making for very atmospheric photos.
