Wu Han’s former residence is located in Kuzhutang Village, Shangxi Town, Yiwu City. It is a quadrangle architecture, covering an area of 463.4 square meters. Facing south and north, it has five rooms in width. The symmetrical layout consists of the main hall, side rooms, two wings, and a garden, forming a front porch-style courtyard structure.
The former residence displays Wu Han’s personal belongings from his lifetime, various precious books such as ‘Hai Rui Dismissed from Office,’ as well as historical materials, images, and texts from different periods of Wu Han’s life. Wu Han (1909-1969), originally named Chunhan, styled Chenbo, was from Kuzhutang Village, Shangxi Town, Yiwu City, Zhejiang Province. In July 1943, he joined the Chinese Democratic Political Alliance and participated in the ‘Southwest Cultural Research Association’ activities led by the Chinese Communist Party, where he published papers such as ‘On Corruption,’ ‘On Soil,’ and ‘A Chapter of the History of Corruption’ at gatherings. He was dedicated to historical research, with a particular depth in the study of Ming history, making him one of the few experts in this field in China. In 1959, he began researching Hai Rui and completed the historical drama ‘Hai Rui Dismissed from Office’ the following year.
