‘Transport connects Jiangnan, and Pingwang is where fate leads.’ The Wujiang Canal Cultural Tourism Scenic Area is located in Pingwang Town, Wujiang District, Suzhou City. Pingwang had a post station in the Tang Dynasty and was established as a town in the Ming Dynasty. It is an ‘ancient Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal town’ rich in history and humanities. It is known as ‘Little Maple Bridge’ and is one of the important transportation hubs in the Yangtze River Delta.

The Wujiang Canal Cultural Tourism Scenic Area is an important part of ‘Suzhou’s Ten Canal Scenic Spots – Pingwang · Four Rivers Converge’, covering a total area of 0.23 square kilometers. There are many historical sites and picturesque scenery in the scenic area, combining the delicacy and refinement of the water towns in the south of the Yangtze River with the simplicity and grandeur of the Wu style and Yue charm.

The beautiful Yingdou Lake is said to be one of the five lakes visited by Fan Li in the Spring and Autumn Period, leaving behind the beautiful scenery of ‘Autumn Moon over the Calm Lake’. The ancient Ande Bridge is a cultural relic of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, creating a majestic posture of ‘looking as far as the horizon and being as flat as a balance’. The ancient temple Xiaojiu Huasi is the place where the famous modern monk Master Taixu became a monk.

For thousands of years, the ‘incense fair’ has been passed down with the佛光虹影 (Buddha’s light and rainbow shadows) and evening drums and morning bells. The Siqian Street with white walls and black tiles has simple and ancient dwellings winding along the water. The charm of the marketplace in the canal town still remains. The brand of canal cultural tourism destination, ‘Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Market’, creates an immersive cultural tourism experience and vividly interprets the one-day life theater of the canal.

The Wujiang Canal Cultural Tourism Scenic Area is creating scenery and nostalgia that can be treasured in the heart and carefully depicting a modern version of the ‘Prosperous Canal Picture’. Open all year round and all day. Tourist center opening hours: 09:00 – 17:00.
