Xia Garden is located to the west of the South Gate of Daming Lake, constructed under the supervision of Luo Zhengjun, the then Shandong Provincial Educator, in the first year of the Xuantong era of the Qing Dynasty (1909 AD). Originally part of Shandong Provincial Library, it was repurposed as an independent courtyard after liberation and incorporated into Daming Lake Park.
The garden features the Jade Pendant Bridge, a small seal script Qian Gua Bei stele from the Ming Dynasty by Hu Zanzong, and a half-wall corridor on the west side of the courtyard inscribed with ‘Zhuge Liang’s Memorials on the Expedition’.
Within Xia Garden, artificial mountains stand tall, ponds encircle the area, green shades cover the sun, and flowers and trees are lush, fully reflecting the traditional architectural style characteristics of ‘Southern Pavilion and Northern Garden’, ‘The First Standard Courtyard of Jinan’, and ‘The Most Prosperous Scenery of Lixia’.
Xia Garden is open all year round, accessible 24/7, with specific operational status subject to the daily opening conditions.
