Xia Mu Mountain Ancient Trail begins at the picturesque Xia Mu Mountain Reservoir, spanning approximately over twenty kilometers. With its numerous bends and beautiful scenery, it is an excellent choice for outdoor hiking. This ancient trail, which has been in use for thousands of years, was also the essential path for monks ascending and descending the mountain.
Xia Mu Mountain, a branch of Tianmu Mountain, is located about 25 kilometers southwest of Huzhou, belonging to both Wuxing District and Changxing County. As recorded in the Ming Chongzhen Chronicles: ‘Ascending through the rugged high paths, one can see Taihu Lake, with all mountains beneath, often enveloped in clouds and rosy mist, hence the name.’ The mountain is covered with tea gardens, clear streams, and fresh air, making the scenery very pleasant. On the peak of Xia Mu Mountain lies the Xia Mu Spring, known as ‘Heavenly Lake,’ and at the foot of the mountain, there are Xia Mu Mountain Reservoir, Gufeng Reservoir, Shi Chuanwu Reservoir, and Ding Niangling Reservoir. It has been historically acclaimed as having the beauty of ‘Mogan Mountain scenery, Xia Mu Mountain waters.’
