The Xiashan Catholic Church is one of the rare Gothic churches in Zhanjiang City. The front wall of the main building extends 20 meters to Lvyin Road; the back wall extends 6.8 meters to the surrounding wall; the left wall extends 6.1 meters to the surrounding wall; the right wall extends 23 meters to a bungalow, covering an area of 2607.66 square meters. Construction control zone: Along the protection scope line, extend 20 meters on each of the left, right, and back sides, and stop at Lvyin Road in the front. The exotic flower and leaf ‘Crescentia alata’ in the Catholic Church. There are five Crescentia alata trees in Zhanjiang Seaside Park, also known as the cross tree. Four of these five trees are located in the north area of the park, and one is in the entertainment city in the south area. The fruit of Crescentia alata is large, oval, and has a smooth surface. The cross tree has become a major landscape in the park. When tourists come here, they all stop to watch. After the French invaded Zhanjiang, Catholicism followed. In 1900, when French priest Fan Lan presided over religious affairs locally, he proposed building a church. In 1903, it was built with funds raised by the church. It is a brick, stone, and reinforced concrete structure with double spires and a construction area of about 600 square meters. The hall can accommodate nearly a thousand people. It was a relatively large Gothic church in South China at that time. Open all year round and open all day.
