In the past, there was no dedicated ferry terminal between Xiamen and Gulangyu Island, relying solely on small boats and double-oared ferries for transportation.
In 1937, community leaders proposed the construction of the Xiamen-Gulangyu ferry terminal, which commenced on June 9th of the same year.

On Xiamen’s side, the terminal was built at the head of Dao Mei Road in Zhongshan Road, while on Gulangyu Island, it was constructed at the former site of the ‘Piglet Wharf,’ where Chinese laborers departed in the past.

In 1976, the government invested in renovating the terminal, designing it in the shape of an open grand piano, symbolizing the Piano Island.

It now serves as a dedicated terminal for the citizen’s special line route and is open all year round, 24/7.
