Xiamen Underwater World is located on Gulangyu Island, a beautiful 5A-level scenic area. With a total construction area of over 10,000 square meters, it was officially opened to the public on New Year’s Day in 1998. It is a large marine aquarium integrating tourism, entertainment and popular science education. The architectural shape of Xiamen Underwater World resembles a blue crystal palace. The exhibition hall has five characteristic exhibition areas: ‘Freshwater Fish Hall’, ‘Whale and Dolphin Specimen Hall’, ‘Ocean Hall’, ‘Underwater Tunnel’ and ‘Marine Animal Performance Hall’, showing more than 350 kinds of famous and rare aquatic animals with more than 10,000 tails in the world’s basins such as China’s offshore waters, the Indian Ocean, Australian waters and the Amazon River to the vast number of tourists. In this blue underwater dragon palace, you can witness the huge grouper, the cute spotted seal, the powerful shark family, the brave sawfish brothers, as well as the Mexican salamander known as the ‘underwater grandma’, the Chinese sucker known as the ‘Asian mermaid’, the pot-bellied seahorse known as the ‘southern gentleman of Australia’, and the pearl stingray known as the ‘lurking killer’. Particularly worth seeing is the ‘sperm whale specimen’ with a length of 18. 6 meters and a weight of 48 tons displayed in the museum, which is the treasure of Xiamen Underwater World. Opening hours: Open from 08:00 to 19:00 from April 1st to June 30th; open from 08:00 to 18:30 from November 1st to March 31st; open from 08:00 to 19:00 from September 1st to October 31st; open from 08:00 to 21:00 from July 1st to August 31st.
Preferential policies: Children: Free admission for those under 1.2 meters (excluding 1.2M); free. For those 1.2 meters (including 1.2 meters) or above and under 1.4 meters (excluding 1.4 meters), discounted tickets. Elderly: Elderly people aged 60 (inclusive) to 69 (inclusive) can enjoy discounted tickets with their ID cards. Those aged 70 (inclusive) or above can enter for free with their ID cards.
Children under 2 meters in height who visit the exhibition hall alone or are accompanied by military personnel or the elderly with free tickets for children; adult tourists with adult tickets or discounted tickets are allowed to accompany only one child under 1.2 meters for free. For each additional child, additional discounted tickets must be purchased for the accompanying children.
