Xianshan Mountain is located 1 kilometer south of Huzhou City. Originally named Xianshan Mountain. After Li Xian, Emperor Zhongzong of the Tang Dynasty (reigned from 705 to 710), to avoid the taboo of the emperor, Xianshan Mountain was renamed Xianshan Mountain. In ancient times, there were many scenic spots on Xianshan Mountain, such as the Xianting built by Yin Kang of the Jin Dynasty. From 753 to 755 (the twelfth to fourteenth year of Tianbao in the Tang Dynasty), Wei Jingxian built the Wuhua Pavilion. Gaofeng Hall, Jia Ke Temple, Sanxian Temple that worshiped famous people of past dynasties, and Yilaotang where famous people gathered. The scenery is very beautiful.
The relatively famous historical site on the mountain is the ‘Wazun Pavilion’. Wazun Pavilion is on the top of Xianshan Mountain. It is a concave stone wine vessel. It is 2 meters long and about 1.5 meters wide. According to old records, this vessel ‘can hold five dou of wine’. During the Kaiyuan period of the Tang Dynasty (713-741), Li Shizhi, the great-grandson of Emperor Taizong, was the deputy magistrate of Huzhou. He often climbed Xianshan Mountain with friends and stored wine in the concave vessel and had a hearty drink with guests. At the beginning of Tianbao, Li Shizhi was promoted to vice minister. The people of the prefecture built the ‘Wazun Pavilion’ at the place where Li ascended. The ancient stele of Wazun Pavilion is still preserved. The stele of Wazun is 2 meters high and half of it is buried in the soil. In 772 (the seventh year of Dali in the Tang Dynasty), Yan Zhenqing was the governor of Huzhou. During his tenure, he invited 29 celebrities such as Lu Yu and Jiao Ran to climb Xianshan Mountain. They had a drink around the concave stone and looked into the distance. Inspired by the scenery, they jointly composed poems. Now in ‘Complete Tang Poems’, Yan Zhenqing’s ‘Joint Sentences on Climbing Xianshan Mountain and Observing the Stone Vessel of Minister Li Zuo’ is collected. Each sentence is five characters long. There are 29 couplets, 58 sentences in total, and 290 characters. It became a grand gathering of famous people in the history of Huzhou.Xianshan Mountain
