Xian’an Stone Forest is located on the Xian’an Ridge where Baoting County meets Sanya City in the west. Discovered and named in 1992, it sits at an altitude of 700 meters. Surrounded by cliffs and ancient trees, it has a relative height difference of over 150 meters from the surrounding area. With a natural vegetation coverage of 70%, it presents a tropical lowland rainforest landscape. It is the only tropical karst stone forest landform in China, covering an area of approximately 0.39 square kilometers. Here, there are over a hundred large stone buds and countless small ones, each with unique shapes and sizes. The stone buds generally stand 3-4 meters tall, and some reach 10-15 meters. The tallest ones reach up to 35 meters. The hundred stone buds resemble fairies, camels, eagles, dinosaurs, tigers, leopards, turtles, and seahorses.
Among the stone forest, there are numerous caves of various sizes and shapes with twists and turns, including the Small Qianlong Cave, Fairy Cave, and Panlong Cave. The caves vary in size and form. Some contain smaller caves and rivers navigable by wooden boats. The stone forest’s solution channels resemble those carved by knives and axes. Generally 5-10 meters deep, some are as deep as 25 meters. The stone forest is enveloped by tropical lowland rainforest, offering a rich and colorful landscape. Xian’an Stone Forest integrates mountains, stones, caves, cliffs, forests, and streams, making it an exquisite masterpiece of tropical rainforest art sculpted by wind and rain.
