Xianqiao Underground River

Xianqiao Underground River, named after the folklore ‘Xianqiao’, is located in the northern part of Guangdong Province, 138 kilometers away from Guangzhou and 18 kilometers from the city of Yingde. Formed 250 million years ago, the river spans a total length of 30,000 meters, consisting of two underground sections connected by a surface section. The first underground section is 300 meters long, the surface section is 2,500 meters long, and the second underground section is 27,000 meters long (with 1,300 meters developed), making it one of the longer underground rivers in Asia.
The Xianqiao Underground River is formed by two underground sections and a middle surface section, with a total length of approximately 13 kilometers. It flows from west to east with a calm river surface, offering visitors a boat tour that takes about 2 hours, making it a very mysterious natural wonder.

The river’s creature, described as ‘seemingly immortal yet not immortal’, ‘not immortal yet seemingly immortal’, leaves tourists in awe, praising it as ‘divine and perilous’, ‘astounding to behold’.

The external view of the underground river – Xianqiao, is located 5 kilometers south of the Xianqiao Underground River scenic area. It is a legendary Ming Dynasty bridge known as ‘Xianqiao’. The bridge runs from north to south, is 28 meters long, 3.5 meters wide, and 7 meters high, with three piers and two arches. The entire bridge is built with stones, without any lime or mortar, yet it has withstood centuries of mountain floods and remains a vital local transportation route. Folklore says it was built by immortals, hence the name ‘Xianqiao’.


Opening hours are from 08:30 to 16:30 all year round. Preferential policies include: Children under 1.2 meters (inclusive) accompanied by a guardian are free; children between 1.2 meters (exclusive) and 1.5 meters (inclusive) enjoy discounts. Tour guides holding a ‘National Tourism Bureau Guide Certificate’ or ‘Travel Agency Manager Qualification Certificate’ are free. Active-duty military personnel and disabled veterans with valid identification are free. Elderly people aged 60 (inclusive) and above with valid ID or senior citizen preferential certificate enjoy discounts. Disabled individuals and retired military personnel with their ‘Disability Certificate’ or ‘Retired Military Certificate’ enjoy discounts.

2. After exceeding the free charging time, every 12 hours is counted as one time. If it is less than 12 hours, it is charged as one time. If it is more than 12 hours but less than 24 hours, it is charged as two times, and so on.



3. Military vehicles, police cars, fire engines, ambulances, disaster relief and rescue vehicles, postal vehicles, sanitation vehicles, municipal facility maintenance and repair vehicles, funeral vehicles and other vehicles on duty are exempt from parking service fees.
