Xianyan is 19 kilometers away from downtown Wenzhou and is one of the traditional scenic spots in Wenzhou. Among the many scenic spots in Zhejiang known for their waterfalls, Xianyan is relatively unknown. However, if you mention Mr. Zhu Ziqing’s ‘Green’ in the text from childhood, perhaps a vivid picture will appear in your mind. Yes, the strange and intoxicating ‘daughter green’ described by Mr. Zhu is precisely the Meiyu Pool in Xianyan. Many tourists come here to trace the footsteps of the master. On the way to visit the Meiyu Pool, there are also Leixiang Pool, Longxu Pool, Sangut Pool, and several cultural attractions with their own unique features, where you can see different kinds of green. There are buses directly to the scenic area from downtown Wenzhou and Ruian City, with convenient transportation. The main landscapes in the scenic area from low to high are: Sangut Pool – Meiyu Waterfall – Leixiang Waterfall – Longxu Waterfall. Following the walking trail, it takes about three hours on foot to complete the whole journey. Although most of it is a stepped road, it is not too tiring to walk. Not far from entering the gate is the Shenshou Zen Temple. The temple is relatively quiet. You can worship Buddha and pray for blessings here, and no one will pester you to burn incense. A pool of water in the temple and the Huiguang Pagoda behind it set off each other and are the landmark buildings of Xianyan. Leaving the temple and walking in front of the Lvwaidlou, going straight leads to Sangut Pool, and turning left is the Meiyu Pool. The two roads converge on the mountain to form a loop. You can decide which side to climb up according to your personal preference and then go down on the other side. However, driven by Mr. Zhu’s alluring description, there are always more tourists who go to see the Meiyu Pool first. Soon after turning left and starting to climb the mountain, you will first pass the Xianrenhuatata. The stream flows into the Sangut Pool below from this smooth slope. In summer, tourists can play in the shallow water at the upper part, which is very cool. Continuing forward from here, you can see the Meiyu Waterfall from afar. Passing through the ‘rock formation’ and entering the Tongxuan Cave, the Meiyu Pool is right in front of you. There are many stone carvings beside the pool, but the handwriting is already somewhat difficult to recognize. Above the Meiyu Pool is the Ziqing Pavilion built in memory of Mr. Zhu Ziqing. The stone tablet in the pavilion is engraved with the full text of ‘Green’. Savoring the words and phrases in it and then looking back at the scenery in front of you seems even more pleasing to the eye. The Meiyu Pavilion a little further up is a good place to view the Meiyu Waterfall. Looking down at the Meiyu Waterfall from here is like looking at a beautiful young girl. Take a short rest in the pavilion and continue forward. After passing the Fuhu Cave, turn right at the fork to go to the Leixiang Pool. The Leixiang Pool is hidden in a canyon. From afar, you can hear the roaring sound of water coming from the canyon. Walking down dozens of steps and approaching, you can see a silver waterfall falling from the sky, which is very spectacular. The next destination is the Longxu Pool above. You can reach it by walking through a small forest and going straight after reaching the small store, or by turning left and walking across the stone bridge above the Leixiang Pool and passing through a wading area.
The grandeur of Longxu Tan and Lei Xiang Tan is distinctly different; the water slides down from the top, forming an elegant triangle, and even the sound of the water seems gentle. After returning from the other side of Longxu Tan and reaching the snack bar, one can follow a straight path downward, passing by Sanhuangjing, Xiegong Pavilion, and Shengxian Pavilion, eventually reaching Shengxianyan above the Meiyu Waterfall. From here, the Meiyu Waterfall and Meiyu Pool are not visible, and the sound of the waterfall is inaudible, but the view is excellent. The surrounding mountains of Xianyan and the Huiguang Pagoda at the foot of the mountain can be seen in their entirety. After taking a moment to appreciate the scenery, one can proceed downward past Sangu Tan and return to the scenic area entrance. The duration of the scenic spot visit is not long; meals can be had at Lvwai Building, and snacks can be purchased at the snack bar. It is also likely because of its proximity to the urban area of Wenzhou that there are few places to stay both inside and outside the scenic area. Visitors can return to the city for accommodation after the tour. The scenic area is open from 03/10 to 12/31 from 08:00 to 17:00.
