Xiaohuanglou is actually the former residence of Huang Pu. The former residence is located at No. 36, north side of the middle section of Huangxiang Lane. In 2006, it was announced as a national key cultural relics protection unit. Now it serves as the Chinese Cross-strait Couplet Museum, storing more than a hundred couplets and plaques of Liu Yong, a Jinshi in the 16th year of Emperor Qianlong’s reign, Feng Guozhang, the leader of the Beiyang warlords, and others.
The flower hall is a two-story pavilion. It is three rooms wide and five columns deep, with a chuandou-style wooden frame. Dragons and phoenixes are painted on the beam frames. The columns, doors and windows are all made of nanmu, with exquisite workmanship and delicate carvings. On both sides of the upstairs corridor, there are opposite overhanging terraces, which are connected to the rockery. On both sides of the building, against the wall, there are snow caves made of glutinous rice and sanhetu, which are still well protected to this day.
