Xiayu Temple is an ancient temple with a history of more than 800 years. It is located on a small islet named ‘Xiayu’ in the center of Dongqian Lake. It is surrounded by Dongqian Lake on the west, south and east sides. On the north side is Erling Mountain. It is adjacent to ‘Butuo Dongtian’, known as ‘Little Putuo’. It is said that Shi Hao, the prime minister of the Southern Song Dynasty, built ‘Butuo Dongtian’ on Xiayu Island in the center of Dongqian Lake to fulfill his mother’s wish to go to Putuo. And relying on ‘Little Putuo’, he built Xiayu Temple for his mother to chant sutras and worship Buddha. Currently, there are more than 10 nuns in Xiayu Temple and many pilgrims. The annual number of tourists reaches 200,000. Opening hours: Open all year round from 08:30 to 16:00.
