Xihoumen Bridge is a technologically demanding, extra-large cross-sea bridge in the Zhoushan Bridge Island Linking Project consisting of five cross-sea bridges. It spans the Xihoumen Waterway, connecting the islands of Cezi and Jintang. The main bridge is a two-span continuous steel box girder suspension bridge with a main span of 1650 meters and an approach bridge of 900 meters, making it one of the largest steel box girder suspension bridges in the world.
The scenic area is adjacent to the international shipping lane of Xihoumen waters. The Xihoumen shipping lane is a well-known area of rapid currents in China. Locals have a saying, ‘It’s easy to be a ship captain, but hard to pass Xihoumen,’ to describe the turbulent waters. Xihoumen waters have always been rich in mackerel, and visitors can taste the authentic ‘Ten Ways to Eat Mackerel.’ The scenic area currently has six viewing platforms that allow visitors to appreciate the grandeur of Xihoumen Bridge from different perspectives.
