Xilai Ancient Temple, also known as ‘Xixi Buddha’, is located in Huilai County, Jieyang City, Guangdong Province, situated by the Longxi River in Xixi Town, Xi’er Village. It was a necessary passage on the ancient road to Chaozhou. The temple was established in the fourth year of the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty (1525) to commemorate the Tang Dynasty’s eminent monk, Great Dian, who came here to pray for rain to help the people.

Behind the temple, the Longjiang River flows, and to the west, the highway is bustling with traffic. Since 1983, the temple has been renovated and expanded by successive abbots, making the ancient temple even more magnificent.

Xilai Ancient Temple was registered and opened to the public in August 1988, and on December 3, 1990, it was declared a county-level cultural protection unit by the county government. It is open all year round, with full-day access.
