Xinghai Garden is located on the west bank of Luhu, covering an area of 6000 square meters. It was built to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the death and the 80th anniversary of the birth of Xian Xinghai, a renowned Chinese musician, funded jointly by the Guangdong Musicians Association and the Guangzhou Municipal Government. The garden was constructed on April 12, 1985 and completed on December 1, 1985, with a ceremony to relocate Xian Xinghai’s ashes.
Inside the garden, there are statues, a monument, and a tomb dedicated to Xian Xinghai, as well as pavilions, pergolas, a 70-meter-long tomb path, and a 300-square-meter exhibition hall showcasing Xian Xinghai’s life and achievements, which include seven sections: ‘In Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai’, ‘In Paris’, ‘Returning to Shanghai’, ‘Shanghai-Wuhan’, ‘In Yan’an’, ‘In the Soviet Union’, and ‘In Remembrance’.Xinghai Garden is nestled against the mountains and waters, with lush greenery and a very elegant environment. Inside the main gate stands a naturally shaped yellow wax stone monument, inscribed on the front with ‘In Mourning of the People’s Musician Xian Xinghai’, and on the back with an epitaph written by Lu Ji, the honorary chairman of the National Musicians Association. A marble base holds a bust statue of Xian Xinghai, and at the base rests some of Comrade Xian Xinghai’s ashes. Since its unveiling in 1985, many young people have come to pay their respects annually.
To accommodate activities for young people, the garden has expanded its square by 1000 square meters and added amenities such as badminton courts, children’s play equipment, boxing arenas, loach ponds, sandpits, and small huts for games and entertainment, allowing young people to engage in beneficial physical and mental activities while receiving education. Xinghai Garden combines patriotism education with recreational activities, making it an excellent venue for children and youth activities. It is open all year round, 24 hours a day.
