Xinghua Village in Chizhou, Anhui, is located to the west of Chizhou City, historically known for its taverns and famous liquors. The village extends from Qi Mountain Lake in the south to Botou Mountain in the north, connects to the West Gate Suspension Bridge in the east, and borders Qiupu River in the west, with apricot blossoms showering over a distance of ten miles.
In the past, Xinghua Village boasted hundreds of acres of apricot orchards with blossoms as beautiful as clouds, and a tranquil and elegant Huang Gong Tavern within the village, filled with the aroma of strong wine. When Du Mu, who served as the governor of Chizhou, visited the area, he left behind the immortal lines: ‘During the Qingming Festival, the rain falls in a drizzle, and passers-by are lost in thought. Where can I find a tavern? A cowherd points to Xinghua Village from afar.’ Since then, Xinghua Village in Chizhou has become a village of eternal fame. ‘The Chronicles of Chizhou Prefecture’ records Xinghua Village: ‘There used to be Huang Gong Tavern, which was later abandoned. The remaining well ring is in the civilian fields, inscribed with: Huang Gong Guangrun Spring.’ During the Ming Tianqi and Qing Kangxi and Yongzheng periods, constructions, buildings, and repairs were successively carried out here. The fame of Xinghua Village wine has endured over time. The ancient well still exists, with clear and cool water, commonly referred to as ‘Fragrant Spring like wine, never exhausted.’ Today, ‘Xinghua Village Wine’ remains a famous brand in the market.
