Located on the southern bank of the Xinjiang River in Xinzhou District, Shangrao City, Xinjiang Academy is one of the four great ancient academies in Jiangxi. Founded in the 33rd year of the Kangxi Emperor’s reign (1694), it was originally named Qujiang Academy. After expansion in the 51st year of Kangxi’s reign (1712), it was renamed ‘Zhongling Lecture Hall’. In the eighth year of the Qianlong Emperor’s reign (1743), a pavilion was built on the back mountain to worship Zhu Xi, and it was renamed ‘Ziyang Academy’. By the 46th year of Qianlong’s reign (1781), it was finally called ‘Xinjiang Academy’. The academy is surrounded by lush greenery, with the four-corniced Kuixing Pavilion on Zhongling Terrace, featuring carved beams and painted rafters, flower windows, and blue tiles, exuding an antique charm. Climbing the pavilion allows for a panoramic view of the Xinjiang River and a distant view of Ling Mountain, providing a delightful experience. In front of Zhongling Terrace, there are still ancient buildings such as Chunfeng Pavilion, Yita Pavilion, Xixiu Pavilion, and Rixin Study. Although Yile Hall has been destroyed, the stone stele and rockery in front of the hall are still well-preserved.
