In the northwest of Shengzhou, there stands a mountain known as Lutai Mountain. According to the Ming Dynasty novel ‘Er Ke Pai An Jing Qi’, a hunter named Chen Huidu once shot a pregnant doe on this mountain. Before her death, the mother deer gave birth to her fawn, licked it clean of blood, and then passed away peacefully. Hence, the mountain was renamed Lutai Mountain.

The Xi Shan First Building is located at the foot of Lutai Mountain. The exact year of its construction is unknown, but it is recorded that during the Song Dynasty, Zhu Xi climbed the building to enjoy the view and left behind the praise ‘Xi Shan First’, giving the building its name.

The Xi Shan First Building is actually the front building of the City God Temple. It is a two-story structure, and its highlights include the exceptionally exquisite floor tiles and the lifelike stone and wood carvings. After admiring the details of the building, visitors can ascend to the second floor and look over the railing to see the shimmering Yin River to the southwest and the lush and beautiful Shan Mountain to the northwest. This place is widely spoken of as a prime location to appreciate the scenery of Shengzhou.

Opening hours are from January 1st to December 31st, 08:30 to 17:00.
