Xiuding Temple Pagoda is located on the west side of Qingliangshan Village, 35 kilometers northwest of Anyang, and was originally built during the Northern Wei Dynasty. It is renowned for its unique Tang Dynasty pagoda within the temple complex. The temple layout faces south and consists of three courtyards. The main halls include the Hall of the Heavenly Kings, the Mahavira Hall, the Second Buddha Hall, and the Iron Tile Hall, which are arranged in an orderly and picturesque manner.
The Tang Dynasty pagoda is situated between the Hall of the Heavenly Kings and the Iron Tile Hall. It is a square, single-eave pavilion-style brick pagoda, approximately 16 meters tall with a simple exterior. The outer wall of the pagoda is adorned with various carvings, which are peculiarly composed of rectangular, diamond, pentagonal, and triangular bricks. The content includes Buddhist figures such as heavenly kings, warriors, and flying apsaras, as well as Taoist figures like immortals, boys, and maids, along with traditional folk patterns like the Azure Dragon and White Tiger. This grand integration of Buddhism and Taoism reflects the characteristics of the Tang Dynasty’s culture, which embraced and assimilated foreign elements. It is considered a treasure among ancient Chinese pagodas.
The temple is open daily from January 1st to December 31st, from 08:00 to 17:00.
