Jiaolu Hermitage, also known as Lu Hermitage and Zhengdeng Court, was established during the Shaoxing years of the Song Dynasty (1131-1162) when the Imperial Guard Horse Division was stationed in the Xixi Wetland area of Hangzhou, and Zhengdeng Court was built in Longju Valley for the purpose of worship. In the early years of the Wanli era (1573), the monk Rujue moved the court to Hezhu and renamed it Zhengdeng Hermitage.

At the end of the Ming Dynasty, Dong Qichang inscribed the plaque during the renovation. Jiaolu Hermitage is one of the famous temples in the history of Xixi, a place where literati and artists gathered to exchange poetry and calligraphy skills. The poetic painting ‘A Stream’s Bend, A Curl of Smoke’ is set against the backdrop of Jiaolu Hermitage. It is open all year round from 09:00 to 16:30, with specific business hours subject to the day’s opening status.
