Xieyang Island, located southeast of Weizhou Island, was also formed by volcanic eruptions and sedimentation. The name Xieyang Island is derived from its position, which allows for a panoramic view of the setting sun from Weizhou Island, and its location to the southeast, where the south side is sunny.
Xieyang Island is very small but boasts a more primitive fishing village appearance and sea erosion landscapes. It has not been developed and there are no dedicated passenger boats to the island. Most visitors travel there by chartering boats from Weizhou Island, mainly for day trips. If you are interested, you can inquire at your accommodation on Weizhou Island whether they can help arrange a boat, or you can go to the dock opposite the town center market to contact a boatman yourself.
Xieyang Island is tiny, and unlike other islands, it does not have any beaches; instead, it is surrounded by towering sea-eroded cliffs. In the central part of the island, there is a village called Xieyang Village, which once had a population of nearly 300 but now only has a few dozen households, all of which are middle-aged and elderly fishermen. There are no children in sight. The primary school that once existed on the island is now only for show, as all the children have left the island to study elsewhere. You can meet these warm and hospitable elderly people on the island. In front of and behind the houses, various tropical fruits and lush vegetation are planted, providing fresh air. Surrounding the volcanic rocks, clusters of cacti can be seen. The domestic animals and poultry on the island are raised naturally, with the occasional appearance of black goats and yellow cattle in the bushes, giving a sense of harmony with nature.
Apart from the simple island scenery, another highlight of the island is its geological features. The sea-eroded caves at the southern dock are very spectacular, with the deep blue sea and the huge sea-eroded caves forming a wonderful landscape. In the seawater accumulated in several volcanic craters, vibrant corals are visible, along with crabs and sea stars. You can see the coral scenery without diving.
Xieyang Island is open all year round, 24/7. Essential tips for visitors: 1. Xieyang Island has no beaches, so there is no need for sandals or flip-flops; preparing hiking shoes would be more comfortable. 2. Xieyang Island only generates electricity for a few hours at night, so be prepared if you have cameras or mobile phones that need charging. 3. There are no restaurants on Xieyang Island, only one shop selling small food items.
