Xu Yinzhi was a distinguished figure in Hangzhou, known for his roles as an official, scholar, and industrialist during the late Qing Dynasty and the early years of the Republic of China. He held an array of esteemed positions, including Chinese Consul in Korea, Salt Transportation Commissioner of Zhejiang, General Manager of the Jing-Feng Railway, President of the Bank of Zhejiang, Director of the Zhili Alcohol and Tobacco Monopoly Bureau, and Director of the Zhejiang Alcohol and Tobacco Affairs Bureau.

Xu Yinzhi was renowned for his refined temperament and was recognized as a clean and honest official with an impeccable reputation. His life came to an end due to illness, and he was laid to rest on Yangmeiling Hill, with a view of the picturesque West Lake.

In 2008, as part of the Jiuxi and Yangmeiling Comprehensive Renovation Project, Xu Yinzhi’s tomb and its surrounding environment underwent restoration and enhancement. The tombstone’s reverse side bears an inscription penned by his nephew and son-in-law, Yu Pingbo, titled “Inscription at the Tomb of My Maternal Uncle.”
