The ancient village of Xu’ao is located in Xiaocun Town and is one of the relatively well-preserved ancient villages in Taishun County. The village has a long history and profound cultural accumulation, and its form is simple and natural. Although the ancient village is named ‘Xu’ao’, the residents in the village are not surnamed Xu but Wu. According to records, during the Xuanhe period of the Song Dynasty, Fang La rebelled. Xu Zhen (from Xianju, Taishun) led troops to resist and unfortunately sacrificed. On the way back home with the coffin, when passing by Yuxi (the current stream in front of Xu’ao), a miracle occurred and sweet dew fell from the sky. As this place had suffered from a long drought and poor harvests, but now there are consecutive bumper harvests. Therefore, the villagers named this place ‘Xu’ao’ to commemorate him. Inside Xu’ao Village, there are crisscrossing streets and lanes. The road surface is paved with pebbles. The folk houses are scattered on both sides of the street in an orderly manner, full of charm. In the village, you can visit ancient buildings such as Wenyuan Courtyard, the Residence of Juren, and the Wu Clan Ancestral Hall. Nowadays, very few people live in the village. It appears silent and desolate, and there is a decadent atmosphere everywhere. The prosperity of that year has withered, making viewers feel melancholy. The opening hours are all year round and open all day.
