Yagong Island is located in the northern part of the Yongle Islands in the Xisha Islands of China, one nautical mile southeast of Quanfu Island. The island is on the passage of ‘Yinyu Gate’ between the reef where Quanfu Island is located and the reef where Yinyu Island is located. The island is composed of reefs. There is a small lake on the island that rises and falls with the tide. Yagong Island is in the Yongle Atoll of the Xisha Islands. The water depth around the island is relatively shallow, and the distribution range of the reef flat is relatively large. Large and medium-sized ships cannot navigate. Entering and leaving the sea area near Yagong Island can only be through fishing boats or small boats. The island develops on patch reefs, and the area around the island is deep water. This kind of reef body grows independently in the lagoon. It is easier to form on the passage of ‘gate’, because near the ‘gate’, the tide is rapid and the wind and waves are strong. There are also many plankton from the open sea or the lagoon, which is conducive to the growth and merger of reef heads and the formation of small islands. Yagong Island is just in the Yinyu Gate area. The island is crescent-shaped, showing the influence of northeast wind on the development of reef bodies.
