Yalong Bay Central Square may not offer any particular attractions, but it is considered a landmark of Yalong Bay, especially with its totem pole made up of over 200 large granite stones and an aluminum alloy column with a diameter of 2.5 meters, which attracts many tourists to take photos and commemorate. The totem pole, being the highest point in the square, is engraved with patterns of dragons, phoenixes, sunbirds, fish, and the four deities of wind, rain, thunder, and lightning.
Around the central sculpture area of the totem pole, three circles of stone arrays are formed: the first circle includes the four seasonal symbols of the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, and Black Tortoise, along with a sundial and 24 solar terms sculptures; the second circle depicts eight ancient myths such as Pangu separating heaven and earth, Nüwa mending the sky, Chang’e flying to the moon, dancing with the dry gourds, Yu the Great controlling the floods, the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl, Hou Yi shooting the suns, and Kuafu chasing the sun; the third circle reflects astronomy, humans, animals, plants, all living beings, and eight ancient Chinese deities. The totem pole and the sculpture group form an integrated whole, creating a strong sense of ancient Chinese astronomy and Eastern mystique. The design of five white sail-like pointed tents and a large colorful fountain outside the square adds a modern touch to the sculptures with ancient cultural connotations.
