Yan, a doctor from the Southern Song Dynasty, was known to use the water from this well for brewing medicine and drinking. This water is renowned for its clarity, coolness, softness, sweetness, and purity, which has led subsequent generations to compete for the privilege of drinking it.
Originally, there were six wells in the same water system of Yan Guan Lane. However, over the years, all but one have been filled in. The remaining well is open to the public all year round and is accessible 24 hours a day.
