The Yan Wenjiang Shrine in Boshan is commonly known as the Grand Temple. It is located at the southern foot of Phoenix Mountain in the southwest suburbs. It is a precious historical and cultural heritage. It is a shrine built to commemorate a hardworking, kind, and filial folk working woman. It was first built in 557 AD during the Northern Zhou Dynasty, rebuilt in the fifth year of Tianbao in the prosperous Tang Dynasty (746 AD), expanded in the eighth year of Xining in the Song Dynasty (1075 AD), and additional constructions were made during the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. In the late spring and early summer of 2003, it was expanded again. It is a group of ancient buildings with five courtyards and more than 80 halls. It is a relatively large-scale and well-preserved ancient building complex in Zibo City. The main building in the shrine – the main hall is built on the platform foundation by the principle of leverage. It is purely a wooden structure frame. The structural method is very peculiar and exquisite. It is very rare in China and has high historical, cultural, scientific and artistic value. In the spring of 2001, it was identified by experts inside and outside the province as the third ancient building of the Tang Dynasty in China, which caused a certain sensation at home and abroad.
