Located in the Dalongqiu Scenic Area, Jinzhu Gorge connects the Jingxing Gorge above and flows into the Qingjiang River below, spanning approximately 3 kilometers in length. The gorge features steep peaks on both banks, dense forests, clear waters, and the fragrance of flowers, creating a tranquil and serene environment. Within the gorge, there are cascading waterfalls and springs, as well as eighteen pools such as Chu Yue, Xia Men, Hulu, Shu Yu, Xia Pei, Ju Ying, and Lian Huan. Between these pools, one can find shallow rapids, narrow valleys, and steep cliffs. When the stream passes through the rugged narrow valleys, it rushes violently, with waves and spray flying. Even today, it is challenging for visitors to cross the gorge. Over 1500 years ago, Xie Lingyun, the governor of Yongjia, sighed at the sight of the gorge and could only ‘cross the ridge’ instead of ‘walking along the stream’. Xie Lingyun’s poem ‘Crossing the Ridge from Jinzhu Gorge’ has been widely recited through the ages. The lines ‘The gibbon’s cry truly knows the dawn, the valley is deep and the light is not yet apparent. Under the rock, the clouds are just gathering, and the dew on the flowers is still dazzling. Winding along the nooks and crannies, climbing the ridges step by step. The streams cross repeatedly, and riding the flow, one enjoys the twists and turns,’ depict the charm and spirit of the former Jinzhu Gorge. The gorge is open all year round, 24 hours a day, with specific operational status subject to daily opening conditions.
