Yangpu District Library (Main Library)

The Yangpu District Library is located in Yangpu District, Shanghai. Its predecessor was the former Shanghai Municipal Library. It was designed by the famous architect Dong Dayou at that time. It opened in 1936 and has a history of more than 80 years. The renovation and expansion project has used many new techniques and retained some original pattern paintings. It continues to use traditional painted handicrafts, using limestone powder and ore colors, and carefully drawing with the delicate brushstrokes like painting Thangka to create an architectural style with ancient charm.


It has also become a popular check-in place for tourists and is known as the ‘Little Forbidden City’. Opening hours: Open from 12:30 to 21:00 on Friday throughout the year; Open from 09:00 to 21:00 from Monday to Thursday and Saturday to Sunday throughout the year.
