The Yang’s Ancestral Hall is rumored to have been established by descendants of the Yang Family Generals who took refuge here. The entire ancestral hall is simple, atmospheric, and of large scale. This is a very large ancestral hall. It is said to be one of the larger folk ancestral halls in Zhuhai. Yang’s Grand Ancestral Hall was built in 1868 (the seventh year of Tongzhi in the Qing Dynasty). It was originally an ancestral hall for folk sacrifices by the villagers of Beishan. It has five bays in width and three bays in depth, with a hard mountain roof. There are halls, chambers, halls, courtyards, wings, corridors, and music platforms. There are also libraries on both sides. The building area is 2478 square meters, and the land area is more than 5300 square meters. The ancestral hall is surrounded by courtyard walls. Facing the ancestral hall is a flagstone road about 1.5 meters wide. The two sides of the flagstone road are also grasslands surrounded by bricks. At the middle and outer wall on both sides of the grassland, there is a cement-like square stone platform flagpole holder with two ears erected. One ear has one hole, and the other ear has two holes. This is something that ordinary ancestral halls do not have. It is understood that the flagpole holder has a special meaning. Under the feudal social system with strict hierarchy in ancient China, only when someone in the family obtained an official position above the fourth rank was there the qualification to erect such a flagpole. There are also two lifelike stone lions facing each other in the grassland. Yang’s Grand Ancestral Hall is magnificent. There are small gates named ‘Fengmao’ and ‘Linzhi’ on the left and right respectively. Presumably, it should take the meaning of ‘rare and excellent’. The entire building is a large-scale architectural style with dougong supporting purlins and nine-frame beams in accordance with the second-rank official rank specifications. Many places are supplemented by the famous three carvings in Lingnan – brick carving, stone carving, and wood carving. Opposite the ancestral hall is also the ‘Zhuhai Celebrity Sculpture Garden’. You can visit both places together to learn about Zhuhai’s history. It is open from 08:30 to 11:30 and 14:30 to 17:30 all year round. Among them, admission stops at 11:30 in the morning session and 17:30 in the afternoon session. The specific opening hours are subject to the on-site announcements of the scenic spot.
