Yankou Ancient Town is located in Wusheng County. In ancient times, it was called Fengshan Town. It was built in the Song Dynasty. Most of the existing buildings are from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is an area inhabited by Hui people. Yankou Ancient Town is the second largest area inhabited by Hui people in the Jialing River Basin and has extremely Islamic characteristics. The entire ancient town is built along the mountain. It is about 4 kilometers in total length and covers an area of about 0.5 square kilometers. In ancient times, due to the convenience of water transportation, merchants gathered. There were more than 100 merchant ships gathering for daily trade. In the past, the export products of Yuechi, Wusheng and Guangan counties all gathered here. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Wusheng moved the county seat here. The ancient town became the location of the political, economic and cultural center of the whole county and was even more prosperous. Due to the low terrain of the ancient town, it has been invaded by floods of the Jialing River many times. Since the 1980s, the county seat in the mountain depression has been relocated for development, and the ancient town buildings have been well preserved. The streets of the ancient town take advantage of the terrain, with high and low connections and twists and turns. The street surface is narrow and deep. The ground is paved with stone slabs. It is several meters wide. The houses are wooden structures, with various types of two-entry or quadrangle courtyards. A few have eaves corridors. Most of the houses near the stream are stilted buildings. Thousands of traditional dwellings are scattered at different heights. Buildings such as mosques, old theaters, winemaking workshops and Hui people’s cattle slaughterhouses are antique and magnificent. The Majia Mosque, built in the 43rd year of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, was continued to be built in the 8th year of Daoguang. It is a wooden structure building with a grand scale and a quadrangle courtyard layout. It is composed of a mountain gate, a prayer hall, left and right wing rooms, and inner and outer courtyards, with Islamic characteristics. The Huangjia Mosque and Yuwang Palace that still exist here also belong to buildings of the Qing Dynasty. The ancient Yongshou Temple with a history of thousands of years can be directly accessed by a large bridge. It is grand and solemn, with carved beams and painted pillars. The sculptures inside the hall are vivid. The ancient Dingyuan Pagoda stands toweringly. Looking from the tower, the beautiful scenery of the Jialing River can be seen at a glance, and the charm of the ancient town is fully displayed. The Thousand-Buddha Rock statues of the Song Dynasty are in various poses and full of charm. The Han Dynasty tomb group unearthed under the Thousand-Buddha Rock adds to the mysterious color of the ancient town. The specific opening hours and business status are subject to the opening situation on the day.
