Yanqing Temple is located on Lingqiao Road, Haishu District, Ningbo City. The temple was originally built in the third year of the Guangshun period (953 AD) during the Later Zhou Dynasty of the Five Dynasties, and was then called Bao’en Yuan. In the third year of the Dazhong Xiangrui period (1010 AD) of the Northern Song Dynasty, it was renamed to its current name and is the second among the Five Mountains of the Lecture School. The existing main buildings face north to south, including the Hall of the Heavenly Kings, the Main Hall, and the Rear Hall, covering an area of over 5,000 square meters. The first hall, the Hall of the Heavenly Kings, features a double-eave hard mountain top, a dougong bracket system, five bays, with seven purlins in the central bay, and the beams and columns are finely processed, with the existing structure being relatively intact; the second hall, the Mahavira Hall, features a double-eave hip roof, with a tall body and large materials, presenting a plain style; the rear hall, with a double-eave hard mountain top, is flanked by side rooms, forming a three-courtyard plan, with five bays, and its decoration is more exquisite than the previous two halls, with all exposed components finely processed, and the eaves corridor is particularly prominent. In the past, there was a rippling blue lake in front of the temple, known as one of the famous ‘Four Ming Ancient Temples’.
