The Yantai Mountain Scenic Area is located at the northern end of Yantai urban area. It is a mountain and sea park surrounded by the sea on three sides. There is a beacon tower built in the Ming Dynasty on the mountain. Yantai gets its name from this ‘beacon tower’. There are many beautiful old Western buildings in the scenic area. Standing on the observation deck of the lighthouse, you can have a panoramic view of the coastal scenery and the whole city built along the coast. The Yantai Mountain Scenic Area is not large and can be toured in half a day. The lighthouse on the top of the mountain is the highest point in Yantai city. You can take the elevator in the lighthouse to the 11th floor observation deck. Looking out at the sea, enjoying the coastline and the city scenery from here is great. Under the lighthouse is the beacon tower. Here there will be a live performance of ‘soldiers’ in Ming Dynasty costumes holding torches and lighting up the beacon smoke. It is very wonderful. When you come to Yantai Mountain, you must take a walk on the seaside plank road. It is very enjoyable to blow the sea breeze and see the beautiful scenery along the coast. When you are tired, you can take a rest in the Rolang Pavilion. The Rolang Pavilion is the best place to view the sea and watch the sunrise in this area. There is also a famous wooden suspension bridge hanging between the rocks by the sea. This is the ‘Lianxin Bridge’ symbolizing eternal love. The guardrail full of red concentric locks is a good place for taking pictures. During the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty, Yantai became the first trading port in Shandong. At that time, more than a dozen countries established consulates or acting consulates in Yantai. Some of these buildings have now become beautiful scenic spots in the Yantai Mountain Scenic Area, including the former sites of the consulates of the United Kingdom, the United States, Denmark and Japan. These former sites are all Western buildings with different styles. They are beautiful in appearance and have a sense of age. They are very suitable for taking pictures.
