Yanxi Palace is a Chinese palace architecture from the Ming and Qing dynasties, and it is one of the six eastern palaces within the Inner Court of the Forbidden City, located at the southeast corner of the eastern six palaces area. It was established in the 18th year of Yongle of the Ming Dynasty (1420) and renamed Yanxi Palace during the Qing Dynasty. It was rebuilt in the 25th year of Kangxi’s reign (1686).
Since 1949, the Yanxi Palace has been used as a repository for cultural relics, serving as the Chinese Ancient Ceramic Research Center and the Chinese Ancient Calligraphy and Painting Research Center. In 2010, Yanxi Palace was opened to the public, hosting exhibitions of ancient ceramic specimens and ancient Chinese characters. On March 2, 2019, the Palace Museum announced the initiation of research-oriented conservation and restoration of the Yanxi Palace area. Opening hours are from April 1st to October 31st, Tuesday to Sunday, 08:30-17:00; from November 1st to March 31st, Tuesday to Sunday, 08:30-16:30; closed all day on Mondays throughout the year; open on New Year’s Day and Spring Festival, 08:30-16:30; open on Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day, 08:30-17:00.
