The Bao Gong Building on Yanzhou Island is located to the east of Yanzhou Island in the middle of the Xijiang River, down the Lingyang Gorge in Zhaoqing City (historically known as Duanzhou Prefecture), more than ten kilometers away from Zhaoqing City. It has been passed down since ancient times that Yanzhou was where Bao Gong served as an official in Duanzhou during the Northern Song Dynasty, in the third year of the Qingli era. In the 14th year of the Daoguang era (AD 1843), the three-story building was constructed through the joint efforts of the people on the island, originally named ‘Bao Gong Temple’. The building featured a three-tiered, quadrangle-style architecture, surrounded by walls and trees planted behind. By the 7th year of the Tongzhi era, due to the dilapidation of the third floor, it was renovated into a two-story building and renamed ‘Bao Gong Building’. With a history of over 160 years, it has become a famous historical site on Yanzhou Island. However, in recent decades, due to negligence in maintenance, it fell into disrepair and was ultimately destroyed by a typhoon in 1984. The newly constructed Bao Gong Building was completed in 1990, and in 1995, the Yanzhou Management District invested over three million yuan in its expansion. Upon entering Bao Gong Building, the first section features the Wei Xiaosu Memorial Archway, with a release pond in front. The second section is the main entrance, with the bold characters ‘Bao Gong Building’ inscribed on the horizontal beam. Passing through the archway, one finds the main building of Bao Gong Building, Han Ran Pavilion, north and south side corridors, a courtyard, a treasure tower, and the Wuyi Bridge. The opening hours are 8:00-17:00 all year round.
