The function of the Yao Storm Bridge is similar to that of the Dong Storm Bridge, and it is also referred to as the ‘cool bridge’ by the Yao people. Apart from wooden bridges, most are constructed by adding a bridge corridor, pavilion, and a pavilion at the bridge head on top of stone arch bridges. They feature a dougong-style wooden structure, with two or three eaves, and some even have four eaves, with a total height ranging from 9 to 10 meters.
The storm bridge is not only a shelter from the rain for passers-by but also a dating spot for young men and women of the Yao ethnicity. It is open all year round and available 24/7, with specific business status subject to the day’s operations.
