Yaoshan is located in the northwest of Jinan city and is named for its production of a medicinal stone with high medicinal value – Actinolite. Yaoshan features nine peaks of varying sizes, resembling lotus flowers in different forms, hence the name ‘Nine-Peaked Lotus Mountain’, and is one of the ‘Nine Points of Qi Smoke’ in Jinan.
Yaoshan is not only known for its unique stones but also for its abundance of medicinal herbs such as Pinellia ternata, Polygala tenuifolia, Chrysanthemum morifolium, Artemisia capillaris, Bupleurum chinense, and Rehmannia glutinosa. Ancient texts record that Yaoshan was once the gathering place for herbs by Bian Que, a revered ancient Chinese physician. With a long history, Yaoshan boasts a wealth of natural and cultural landscapes, featuring towering cypress trees, continuous green shades, and ever-flowing springs. Every year on the third day of the third lunar month, a large-scale mountain fair is held on the mountain, making it a popular destination for Jinan residents to climb and enjoy the greenery.
