Yefu Mountain, located approximately 9 kilometers east of Lujiang County, is renowned for its verdant peaks, splendid temples, historical relics, and numerous legends, earning it the title of ‘Little Jiuhua of the North’. It is said that during the Spring and Autumn period, the father of sword casting, Ou Yezi, forged swords on this mountain, leaving behind the ancient site of the Sword Casting Pool, hence the name Yefu Mountain.
At the summit of Yefu Mountain stands a towering ancient temple complex with secluded meditation rooms – Futiger Temple. Legend has it that in ancient times, a child with an extremely ugly appearance and blind eyes was abandoned by his parents, only to be found by a tiger who brought him into its den, nursed him, and dug out a spring to cure the child’s eyes. The child, after growing up, became a monk and was inseparable from the tiger. Later, he arrived at Yefu Mountain, built a temple to settle down, and spread the teachings and practice the path. When Emperor Li Ye of the Tang Dynasty learned of this, he conferred the title ‘Filial and Compassionate Futiger Zen Master’ upon him, and the temple was named ‘Futiger Temple’. From this, many historical sites and scenic spots such as Tiger Digging Spring, Tiger Tying Mound, Futiger Zen Master Tower, and Gratitude Temple emerged on and around the mountain.
