Yinping Mountain National Forest Park is located in the eastern part of Dongguan City, within the territory of Xie Gang Town, covering a total area of 2518.3 hectares. Yinping Mountain, situated at the southeast of the Yinping Mountain Nature Reserve, is the main mountain range heading north. The park boasts five peaks over 700 meters, a rarity in Dongguan City, which is predominantly characterized by plains and plateaus.
The Yinping Mountain Nature Reserve is rich in flora and fauna, with dense and lush vegetation, enchanting scenery, birds singing and cicadas chirping, and cascading waterfalls, forming a unique natural landscape. Coupled with local folklore, it is imbued with color and charm. From the Nanmian Village entrance, the Yinping Mountain appears like a gorilla’s head gazing eastward. Observing from the reservoir dam or on the road to the management station, it resembles the ‘Fairy Monkey Watching the Moon,’ creating a distinctive ‘Fairy Monkey Watching the Moon’ landscape.
The Shigu Reservoir cuts through the middle of the reserve, with clear waters reflecting like a mirror. The reflection of the high mountains opposite gives a sense of ‘high gorges forming a calm lake.’ A gentle breeze over the lake causes shimmering light, and the fresh mountain breeze blowing on visitors’ faces instantly dispels the fatigue of urban life, leaving one refreshed and delighted.
From February to March each year, the ‘Spring Red’ (Red Flower Lotus) blooms across the mountains, presenting a vibrant red among the green, with the golden flowers of the mountain nutmeg tree adding to the allure. From April to May, the white flowers of the Leishu tree embellish the lush greenery; in autumn, the red leaves of the mountain tallow tree and maple trees paint the forests in a different spectacle; in winter, clouds and mist wrap around the Yinping Mountain and Baiyun Mountain.
In addition to the ‘Fairy Monkey Watching the Moon’ and Shigu Reservoir, the scenic area also features attractions such as the Alien Pit Peacock Waterfall, Double Cascade Waterfall Group, Hundred-foot Waterfall, and Lingnan Fine Fruit Orchard. The park is open year-round from 06:30 to 17:30 and from 06:30 to 18:00. After 15:30, mountain climbing is prohibited at the Half Mountain Pavilion and Boundary Stone in the Xie Gang Scenic Area, and after 16:30, mountain climbing is prohibited on the Shui Zhong Bridge mountain trail.
