Yintai Di is located on the north bank of Yuehu Lake. It was originally the residence of Tong Huai, the vice minister of the General Administration Department in the Qing Dynasty. The so-called ‘General Administration Department’ was the institution in charge of memorials at that time and was also called ‘Yintai’. Therefore, the house where the Tong family lived is called ‘Yintai Di’. And because Tong Huai’s son, Tong Hua, once served as the teacher of Emperor Guangxu, this courtyard is also regarded as the ‘former residence of the imperial teacher’ by the locals. The architecture of Yintai Di itself is also a major attraction and can be regarded as a representative of the official residences of the Qing Dynasty in Ningbo. What is amazing here is its interior furnishings. Not only is it completely restored to its original appearance, but the details are also arranged meticulously. The carved and gilded large beds and cabinets, and even the wooden boxes on the table are painted with colored lacquer and gilded. They look elegant but not exaggerated. In addition, each room in the courtyard is equipped with a function description. Entering Shengwu Hall used by the Tong family to receive guests, Jinbaihua Hall used for ancestor worship, and the master’s study, imagining the scenes of the lives of high-ranking officials and nobles back then can also be an interesting experience.
