Yongfeng Warehouse Ruins Park, located at the site of an ancient large-scale warehouse, was selected as one of the top ten archaeological discoveries in 2002. The story behind its discovery is quite intriguing. In 2001, a real estate developer had plans to invest in a commercial and residential building on this site. However, during routine explorations prior to development, an archaeological team made an unexpected and significant discovery: a large-scale ancient architectural site and a vast collection of porcelain shards.
Extensive research revealed that from the Southern Song Dynasty to the Ming Dynasty, this location served as a government storage institution. Its origins can be traced back to the official granary of the Southern Song Dynasty, known as ‘Changping Cang’. In the Yuan and Ming Dynasties, it was home to the Yongfeng Warehouse and Hongji Warehouse. This historical significance fully illustrates that Ningbo was an important trade port on the ancient Maritime Silk Road.
Recognizing the value of this archaeological site, the government invested 60 million yuan to repurchase the land and allocated funds for further archaeological excavations, ensuring the preservation of this valuable relic. Today, the site has been transformed into an open urban park, offering visitors a unique experience.
As you stroll along the wooden plank road, you can admire the foundations and rivers that have been restored to their original state at a 1:1 scale, based on the initial state of the site. This reconstruction allows visitors to almost feel the bustling atmosphere of the warehouse from that era. The park is open all day, every day, from January 1st to December 31st.
