Yongjin Pool was originally a small river connecting West Lake and Yunsi River. It was dug by Cao Guo, the magistrate of Jinhua during the time of King Wu Yue, and later became a water gate. Yang Pan’s poem says: ‘The spring scenery of Yongjin is late, the blue peach blossoms are blown off. Who gets a piece, flows through a hundred thousand households.’ Walking through West Lake Heaven and Earth, continue southward, and you will arrive at the banks of Yongjin Pool. In May of the third year of Qingtai in the Later Tang Dynasty (936), the water gate was renamed Yongjin Gate. The original water gate had a sluice gate known as Yongjin sluice gate, and its site is now located at the lakeside of the Old Age Park. In the 114th chapter of ‘Water Margin’, Zhang Shun returns to the divine at Yongjin Gate, which refers to this gate. It is open all year round and available 24/7.
