Youyang Taohuayuan Scenic Area is now a national 5A-level tourist scenic area and national forest park. It is located in the hinterland of Wuling Mountain Area at the junction of Chongqing, Hubei, Hunan and Guizhou provinces. Due to the imperial commandment that ‘barbarians do not come out of the cave and Han people do not enter’ in Wuling Mountain Area since ancient times, the scenic area has been sleeping in Wuling Mountains for more than 1600 years. According to the Records of Youyang Zhili Prefecture: ‘Checking its shape, it is exactly the same as the Peach Blossom Spring recorded by Yuanming.’ According to the General Records of Sichuan Province: ‘Youyang belonged to Qianling of Wuling County in Han Dynasty. How can we know that the ferry asked by the fisherman is not here?’ Experts and scholars at home and abroad have demonstrated from six aspects: geography, route, scenery, history, distance and environment, and unanimously determined that this is the prototype of Peach Blossom Spring written by Tao Yuanming. The scenic area has beautiful natural rural scenery, long human history, splendid ethnic culture and strong ethnic customs. The unique and complete folk cultures such as Tujia hand-waving dance, Youyang folk songs,木叶 love songs and Xilankapu retained and inherited. In the ancient Peach Blossom Spring, peach trees line both banks, fragrant grass is delicious and fallen flowers are in profusion. The land is flat and open, paths crisscross, fertile fields and beautiful ponds, and villages are dotted. Fuxi Cave is large in scale, and the sediments in the cave are in various forms. It is praised as ‘underground stone forest and world wonder’ by Zhu Xuewen, ‘the father of Tiankeng in China’. Taohuayuan National Forest Park has a pure ecological environment and is known as ‘the kingdom of plants and natural oxygen bar’. Youzhou Ancient City is 1.3 kilometers long. Tujia stilted buildings are built along the mountain, showing the magnificent momentum of the 800-year prefectural government and the vicissitudes of more than 600 years of Tusi years in Youyang.
