Yu Garden

Yu Garden was owned by a renowned shipbuilding expert, Wu Jingying, who was the Director of Shipbuilding for the National Revolutionary Navy at the time. This small building was personally designed and constructed by him, approximately built in 1931.
The overall design is of British architectural style, with the integration of local Guangzhou characteristics. The originally enclosed arc-shaped balcony was transformed into a recessed ventilated balcony to adapt to the hot and humid weather of Guangzhou. On the British-style beam supports, the uniquely Chinese bellflower shape was added, creating a unique style that blends Western and Chinese elements.

Presently, some parts of Yu Garden have been destroyed, but the flag cedars and kapok trees planted back then still stand in lush greenery. The floor tiles and ponds are well-preserved, but unfortunately, the garden is not generally open to the public. One can only catch a glimpse through the beautiful arched gateway. Open all day from January 1st to December 31st.
