Yu Geng Yue Yun, nestled at the foot of the 5A national scenic area, Xiqiao Mountain, has preserved the natural ecological landscape of ‘thousands of acres of fish ponds and tens of thousands of acres of fields’. Recognized by UNESCO as a conservation unit, it is acclaimed as a rare beauty and a model of virtuous cycle, known as the Mulberry Fish Pond. Covering an area of about 125 acres, the fish pond primarily cultivates the four major domestic fishes and plants approximately 10,000 mulberry trees. From March to April, when the grass is green and the mulberry fruits are red, visitors can pick mulberries or mulberry buds. Tourists can also enjoy watching and feeding fish from the fish viewing platform.
Sai Xiangyun, a luxurious silk fabric, is made by dyeing mulberry silk with the juice of the sweet potato vine, then coating it with mineral-rich river mud, and sun-drying. It is one of the second batch of China’s intangible cultural heritages. Workers take advantage of fine weather to produce and dry Sai Xiangyun.
