The Five Immortals Temple is located on Huifu West Road. It was built in 1377, the tenth year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty. It is a valley temple dedicated to the five immortals. The Five Immortals Temple faces south. There are four characters of ‘Grand View of the Five Immortals’ written by people in the Qing Dynasty on the large plaque on the gate. The Five Immortals Temple built on the mountain still has the front gate, the back hall, the east study and the west study. Its wooden structure is very well preserved and exquisitely new and ingenious. On the east side of the back hall, there is exposed red sandstone strata with huge foot-shaped depressions. Ancient people always thought this was the ‘footprints of immortals’ and it has been preserved. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, it was included in the ‘Eight Scenic Spots of Yangcheng’ as ‘Cave Heaven of Sui Stone’ and ‘Five Immortals Rosy Cloud Cave’ respectively. This is also a historical symbol of Guangzhou’s 2000-year history. According to legend, in ancient times, five immortals rode on five-colored sheep. The five sheep held ears of grain and descended on Guangzhou. The descent of the five immortals made Guangzhou have favorable weather.
