Yuhu Bay

There are many unknown historical sites and relics on the west side of the West Lake. Yuhu Bay is one of them. The lake surface of Yuhu Bay gathers and disperses. The shoreline is tortuous and charming. It is connected with the Small South Lake through the Junyuan Bridge and the water ports in the Huagang Park. This bay existed in ancient times and was the water bend of Chishan. In the old days, the spring water and clear clouds in the bay had a wonderful scenery. One could often hear fishermen and woodcutters singing and answering each other, presenting a leisurely scene. The ancients praised it in a poem: ‘Spring water at the head of Yuhu Bay, clear clouds at the entrance of the ape-calling cave. Fishermen’s songs answer each other gently, and woodcutters’ singing can be heard alone faintly.’ Literati painters such as Huang Gongwang and Zhang Yu left their traces here. After years of vicissitudes, Yuhu Bay later became land. After renovation in recent years, the old sites such as Huangmie Tower Water Pavilion, Zijiu Thatched Cottage, Wuzhuangyuan Square, Jihong Bridge, Santai Dream Traces, and Yucen Poetry Club have reappeared and are very beautiful.
